Friends of Trinidad Parks

Formalized in March 2023, Friends of Trinidad Parks is an action-oriented, non-profit organization dedicated to creating green spaces that promote inclusive, safe, and healthy recreational opportunities for the enjoyment of the Trinidad community. The group is composed of volunteer community members who contribute either time or resources to advocating for, beautifying, and maintaining public spaces in Trinidad.

Alley Park Behind Trinidad Ave/Penn St NE

An abandoned PEPCO substation was recently demolished in the alley behind Trinidad Ave/Penn St NE. Friends of Trinidad Parks is working with local representatives and local non-profits to advocate the 5800sq ft lot be converted into a low-maintenance, community-accessible green space for all of the neighbourhood to enjoy.

There are many advantages to bringing more green spaces to the neighborhood including:

  • Creates a new accessible space where neighbors can socialize and enjoy the outdoors

  • Allows the neighborhood more ownership over communal spaces

  • Reduces the potential for overcrowding and noise due to new construction in a tight alleyway

  • Helps keep temperatures low in summer with more tree coverage

  • Reduces risk of flooding with the help of more greenery
