Friends of Bruce Monroe Park

Friends of Bruce Monroe Park is dedicated to the preservation and improvement of recreation and green space at the site of the former Bruce Monroe Elementary School. The current park has been in place in for 9 years, was created following the destruction of the school, and the school grounds had playgrounds and public recreation spaces for decades prior to that.
Against the needs and preferences of the community, the District Government has approved a 99 year, $1 per year lease to a well connected private developer who will destroy the entire park to make way for pavement and buildings to cover 61% of the site along with a promised but not guaranteed park space on the remaining portion paid for by taxpayers and not funded by the developers who reap the benefits of the development of our public land.
