Black Landscape Architects Network (BlackLAN)

Mission

The mission of the Black Landscape Architects Network is to increase the visibility, support the interests, and foster the impact of Black practitioners in landscape architecture. BlackLAN is dedicated to the success in the profession of persons who self-identify as Black and claim African ancestry.

Objectives

The specific objectives of this organization shall be:

  • Facilitating financial support for member students and emerging professionals through facilitation of scholarships, grants and fellowships.

  • To foster connection between Black practitioners in landscape architecture, including students, academic faculty, emerging professionals, practicing individuals, and firm leadership.

  • Advocacy for the interests, efforts and accomplishments of Black practitioners in landscape architecture, including collaboration and partnerships with organizations whose missions overlap with that of BlackLAN.

Evolution

The group is currently expanding beyond its digital platform to become an organization in support of Black landscape architecture students and professionals. This organizational work will include fund-raising to provide student scholarships, sponsorship of student and professional events, the hosting of an open source website, and collaborative projects with allied professionals and groups.

This corporation is organized exclusively for charitable and service purposes, including, for such purposes, the making of distributions to organizations that qualify as exempt organizations under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or the corresponding section of any future federal tax code.
