Acorn Park

Friends of 19th and Lamont Park, Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization fiscally sponsored by Green Spaces for DC. The Friends is awaiting recognition as the official “Park Partner” with DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) for Mount Pleasant’s 19th and Lamont Park, popularly known as “Acorn Park” because of its iconic playground sculpture.

Acorn Park, the product of an intensive community process to reconcile the aims of disparate community users, combines a lively tot playground, contemplative sitting areas, and thoughtful plantings of native species. The Friends has been organized by the Nature Committee of the Mount Pleasant Village with an initial focus on refreshing and expanding the native plantings in Acorn Park, but with an overall mission of ensuring that Acorn Park remains a priceless asset of the Mount Pleasant community.

Friends welcomes financial contributions that will support the maintenance, in coordination with DPR, of both the built and natural environments within Acorn Park. We also welcome, and need, enthusiastic volunteers for weeding, replanting and mulching; playground maintenance; and neighborhood coordination and strategic planning.
